Weeping for God’s People

Psalms 119.136 Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

Lord, my God, I weep for Your people.

You have given Your people Your Word and Your Spirit. We are without excuse in our sin.

Hosea 4.6-9 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. 7As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame. 8They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. 9And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings

Lord, You have called Your people to follow Your ways so that You may bless us, and so that we will receive and live in the fullness of Your joy.

But, my Lord, we have sinned. We do not live by Your ways. We have become comfortable in our own fleshly ways. We have turned far from You. We do not walk in Your light, but have preferred the shadow and darkness of our sins.

Ezekiel 20.19, 20 I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; 20And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. 21Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness

Lord, I pray You will bless us with a crushing guilt. May You spread over Your people a burning sense of conviction. We have wronged You, and we must repent so that we may live and not die.

Lord, we are deserving of the many tragedies and catastrophes filling our country and our world today: wildfires, floods, plagues and sickness, famine, hurricanes, tornadoes, evil perpetrators, and wars. I pray You call Your people, bring us to our knees in repentance before we are completely wiped out or taken away.

Amos 2.4 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked:

2 Kings 18.11, 12 And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes: 12Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

Jeremiah 9.12b – 14a for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through? 13And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein; 14But have walked after the imagination of their own heart

Bring us to our knees before You, that we may confess, and then praise You and give You glory, O Lord.

Psalms 119.137, 138 Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments. 138Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.

You long to gather us under Your wings, my Lord, but we would have none of You. Turn our hearts to You, Lord God. Cause us to hunger for and crave Your Word, that we might eat of it and be filled, and walk in Your ways again.

  1. Your post complements mine today, so God seems to be speaking to both of us about the wickedness of the world and what awaits all who don’t repent. Hard truth, but it must be told. Thank you for sharing.
